From our Box to your Range
Gopher Target Retrieval Systems were designed with the DIY installer in mind. Whether you're adding an Original to a home range or installing an Xtreme for a professional range, the basic approach is straightforward: you provide the lumber and locally-sourced building materials, and Gopher provides the components that turn that structure into your target retrieval system. Our systems mount to nominal 4×4 lumber and can be adapted to a variety of range layouts and existing structures.
Every range is a little different, so the information below walks through typical installation methods and options for both system types. Below you'll see examples ranging from simple post-to-post installations to beam-mounted systems, along with approaches for various applications (free standing or canopy mounted components). Use these examples as a starting point for your installation - adjusting as necessary to meet your site conditions and local code requirements.
XTREME TARGET RETRIEVAL SYSTEM
Below is an installation option when using the Xtreme kit. The Xtreme system can be used for very stable target retrieval on ranges from 10 yards to 100 yards. The figure shows a stand-alone installation mounted to a 4x4 structure. The figure on the left shows one example of a retrofit mounted to the posts of an existing canopy structure.
ORIGINAL TARGET RETRIEVAL SYSTEM

Below are two installation options when using the Original kit. The Original system can be used for target retrieval on ranges from 10 yards to 25 yards. The right figure shows a stand-along installation mounted to a 4x4 structure. The figure on the left shows one example of a retrofit mounted to the post of an existing canopy structure.
ORIGINAL TARGET RETRIEVAL SYSTEM (STATIC LINE)
Below are two installation options when using the Original kit with the static line option. Using this system option provides for additional tensioning through the addition of a static line on top. This provides better target stability and is good for target retrieval on ranges from 10 yards to 30 yards. The left figure shows a stand-along installation mounted to 4x4 structure. The figure on the right shows an option where the post is sandwiched for use with a single center target.
